With the First Sunday of Advent, we inaugurate a new liturgical year.
The feelings of the Christian expectation of the Lord, who comes at Christmas and will return one day, are well expressed by Saint Paul: love, desire to be pleasing to God, blamelessness.
The Gospel of Luke, which begins cycle C of readings, describes the end of Jerusalem and the world, terrifying for Christ’s adversaries, liberating for his friends. The Lord will come as a judge.
We must prepare ourselves carefully; we do not know the final moment, which is why there must always be active vigilance.
May the Lord grant us to live this new year of grace, as a time given to us to respond to our baptismal vocation and conform to Christ, Lord and Master.
